Ingredients
- 2¼ teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1¼ cups warm water (110°F)
- 3 tablespoons sugar
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 3½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 egg yolk mixed with 1 tablespoon water (for brushing)
Instructions
Step 1: Activate Yeast
Dissolve yeast and sugar in warm water. Let stand for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
Step 2: Mix Dough
Add oil and salt to yeast mixture. Gradually add flour until a soft dough forms. Knead 8-10 minutes until smooth.
Step 3: First Rise
Place in greased bowl, cover, and rise 1 hour until doubled.
Step 4: Shape Rolls
Punch down dough and divide into 16 pieces. Shape each into a ball and place in greased muffin tin.
Step 5: Second Rise
Cover and rise 30 minutes until puffy.
Step 6: Bake
Preheat oven to 375°F. Brush with egg wash and bake 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
Tips for Success
- Room temperature ingredients help the dough rise better
- Don't over-flour the dough - it should be soft and slightly sticky
- Brush with melted butter immediately after baking for extra softness
